Pretty big. What are you looking for? Selection of what?? They have a large wine, liquor, and beer selection. The beer is dominated by high end stuff with reasonable prices (for high end stuff). Though, they do have 12 and 24 of cheap domestic as well. One problem for the worker on his way home is that nothing at Randalls is cold, so if like me, you want a beer just about as soon as you get home, you gonna have to wait.
Is this place comparable to Lukas Liqors? I love that place. They have an incredible selection of beers and bourbons-my personal favs.
Yeah, how is the selection on the higher end liquors? Bourbon, Scotch, Vodka?

^They have a great selection of all the above. I went on Sunday with my friend and we stocked up on Blood Orange Vodka(only had it at Kitchen K) and Barenjager. Needless to say we ran out and I didn't make it to work yesterday.
I've never been to Lucas Liquor, but I heard it's comparable. The only issue as mentioned earlier is the lack of cold beer. However, I like the beer selection at the Mackland Ave Deli better anyway.

Their Bourbon and Scotch selection is amazing...
I focused mainly on the bourbon selection and htey had everything from Old Crow, to some great small batch bourbons that I had never heard of. I stick mostly to Woodford Reserve myself, but I do enjoy picking up a random small batch every now and then.
As for scotch, they had a great selection as well, I am not much of a scotch guy, but their variety of blends and single malts was impressive.
I didn't pay too much attention to the vodka selection except to say that it is large and varied, from cheap brands to specialty infused vodkas...
all in all it is very impressive

I'm a big bourbon drinker, specifically knob creek (and woodford), and I'm happy to hear that the selection is so high. I'll be stopping in shortly. I've actually got to pick up a bottle of wine for my cousin who's having a baby. I think this place sounds like where I should go.
I'll be sure to stop by and pick up some Old Crow.
Actually hoping they have a large selection of euro beers?

Quite large selection of Euro beers. Also have some obscure artisanal French and English ciders that I had never seen before. Fantastic.

i will be honest, the lack of chilled beer has to be hamstringing the place. i now find myself hitting corral (but: they carry brands not available in missouri as well, like dogfishead) in granite only during the week when im working on the east side for a cold bomber instead of swinging by randalls on my way in. i usually head to randalls late week for weekend stocks, however.
Don't be surprised if they apply for a cold beer permit after they've settled in for a while.
They told me that they are planning to expand the micro brew section to the west into the empty area. The lack of cold beer, I bet, is tied to the early fear of their neighbors that it would become a hangout for undesirable "beer in a brown bag" types. Those fears should have evaporated by now, and hopefully coolers will be coming soon. on a related note, my friends and I can't wait to buy cold beers at Randall's and hang out in the parking lot drinking them out of brown bags......................um, I mean return to our respective domiciles with said purchases.

I, too, yearn to imbibe a freshly mated lambic, enveloped in a penetrating coldness...
mophipsi wrote:impressive selection of belgian lambics as well...great place
What lambics did you see while there? I went there for that sole reason today and all they had was the saccharine-sweet almost-lambic Lindenman's that Trader Joe's, World Market, etc. sells. They also had an ale "with lambic added" that I tried; it was OK. What else was there when you went?

Warehouse stocks wines for every budget

If you're planning a big party and need a variety of liquors, you might think about going to Randall's Wine & Spirits at 1910 South Jefferson Avenue. But wear comfortable shoes.
This is a warehouse store that is amply stocked with a wide range of wine, spirits and beer at low prices. George Randall, the owner, says he has about 12,000 square feet and is expanding to 20,000. He said the space was once used to repair trolley cars.

I went there last week. Very good prices on vodka- Ketel One, etc. I'll probably still buy beer at Schnucks or shop/save and buy wine at Bar 33. We really only drink vodka and local beer.

I've been hearing good things about this place. What is their selection of high end French wine like? When I'm in town I usually frequent the Wine and Cheese store in Clayton. Best selection I've seen so far in STL. (Doesn't say much considering I don't live here) Does Randall's compare? Burgundy wines in particular.
At first the wine selection was sub par, really only competing with Schnucks, not the higher end places, but recently they have expanded the wine collection and actually a large part of it (larger than it should be if you asked me) is French. Nothing super high end, but definately a nice selection of $15-$35 stuff.
Before you walk away, ask to see their cellar. I've never been in it, but there is a sign saying that they have a cellar, you just have to ask.

Does anyone know if they have plans to ever be open after 9p.m.? Maybe the neighborhood residents don't want that and if that's the case I'll still shop there but adjust my schedule accordingly, just wondering.

I thought the closing time was tied to agreeing to not having cold beer sales. Maybe things will change.
I was just in there picking up a bottle of tequilla for a 40th birthday party. Easily saved money and was able to afford a better bottle because of Randal's great prices.
Selling cold beer isn't an issue if it is expensive cold beer. The bums don't rock out on the trappist ale.

Last night I walked right by Randalls and there was a guy sitting on a broken piece of concrete, drinking out of a brown bag.
Now, I was not able to look carefully at the bag but it seemed to have a round shape (indicating a 40 oz beer) not a shape of a hard liqour obbotle. Although what is really the difference?
The bottom line is: I like Randalls, they have a clean and good looking interior, I like their products, but pelase don't pretend that they won't attract some undesireables. I do think at this point that it is a limited number of undesireables. Let's hope it stays that way.
