11. After agreeing to merge with Richmond Heights, Clayton Mayor Ben Uchitelle proclaims "the only reason we wanted this was for the new name...Richton".

-- New nightlife district on Chouteau between Grand and Jefferson.

-- Infill housing @ Bohemian Hill links Soulard and Lafayette Square.

-- Laclede's Landing looks to extend closing time, add adult entertaiment.

-- State take over of SLPS ends political bickering.

-- Illinois and Missouri agree on preliminary river bridge deal with tolls.

-- MLB awards 2012 all star game to The Lou.

-- Cards finish 2nd. Cubs win Central but lose 3-0 to Mets in first round.

I can definitely see this happenning, now that totally nude dancing is apparently legal in Missouri. Laclede's Landing may not want it, but they may not have any legal way to prevent it.

I would LOVE to see the first one happenning, but really enjoy the MG parade.

Nothing wrong with aiming high. It'll be a great year even if one-third of those things happen.

If it dies, it will be on the list as one more thing ruined by hoosiers.

So..... what are we talking about here? As far as I know, we are the second largest MG parade in the US. For the sheer size of it, there are no "major" issues reported. I FULLY sympathize with all people in Soulard, cause I am sure this is a pain in the bu*t for them, but I really do NOT see the parade dying out.

In my opinion what happened was that the soulard residents were in their 30's and 40's in the 80's and early 90's when they moved in and renovated the area and they were more acceptable of partying when they were younger. Now that they're in their 50's and 60's they are starting to complain cause they no longer party.

It's a shame because it's only one day a year.

Proposal is made for a 20-storey residential tower on the East Loop, within the Delmar-Rosdale-DesPeres block. Metro will take only a bit of the east end of the block for a transit plaza.

The ascending lines of the Tower will be easily seen from the CWE along Delmar, from Art Hill, from Clayton, from Wash U's hilltop, from Skinker Blvd along the Park, and from east-bound Metrolink trains arriving from Lambert Field.

It's not really that. It's that 20 years ago it was a much smaller event. Now it's over run with stupid, drunk hoosiers. I would be complaining too.

Hey....... I resent being called stupid and drunk..... do not deny it, but resent being called that.

On a serious note though, the majority of the attendees are NOT stupid (though certainly drunk). I do sympathize with the Soulard residents, but as long as there is no destruction of property, I don't think there is much cause of anger against the parade. I think it brings people who generally shun DT (FAMILIES with KIDS), and gives a wider audience a chance to see all the changes going in our great city.

while the parade has gotten noticeably bigger over the last three years I've attended, I've never seen any major problems. Sure, more porta potties would be great, but other than that, This is great for st. louis, and I belive it it now the LARGEST mardi gras in the country. Unfortunately Katrina obviously scaled down events in New Orleans. St. Louis has just as much of a right to celebrate too. We're a French city historically. just a little younger than our older sister city to the south.

An article in the Post today said they will be moving several events to the East side of Broadway, to minimize the impact on the more residential West side.

This could be a prediction I guess: what if the newspaper boxes thrown through the windows of Soulard Soap would have instead been someone's home? Why didn't anyone in the crowd intervene rather than watch (dozens of people)?

Soulardians love to party but many are coming to the party that are not welcome. The only way to "uninvite" them is to change the basic design of parade day. I'd like to predict that this was going to happen but I think it's just going to be full steam ahead in 2007 (some people enjoy watching a good wreck, fight, riot or war).

The person who did it was caught and prosecuted. I feel bad for the people who did nothing(expecting them to have some guilt), but my question is, what could they have, apart from taking his photo and turning it over to the cops? Please note that I do feel for the residents who have to put up with obnoxious drunks like I

I think it is important for STL to be a city known to have (now perhaps) the largest Mardi Gras parade. Positive news about the city benefits us as a whole.

I lived in Soulard in my late 20's early 30's and mardi gras was a pain to me then. Lowered inhibitions make for lowered respect for property and boundaries and for a FEW hours it's fun hosting the huge party, but half a day into it and some idiot is urinating behind your car and hurling racial slurs at you because you've asked him not to would try the mellowist of folks.

Still, it's one day a year. It's a great event for the city as a whole, it draws hundreds of thousands together to have a good time, more so than fair st. louis in my opinion. It patronizes countless businesses and vendors. It gathers national attention for our city (positive attention for a change) and there are very few incidents that would be considered criminal. It lasts a total of about 18 hours and thats it, please don't be one of those that opposes one of the very few large events that promotes our city as a whole positively.

Rich.

p.s. Agreed there needs to be more restrooms available.

Here are my predictions, which are admittedly minor given my distance, but here goes:

1. New residential projects announced for Dogtown;

2. More neon signage Downtown;

3. Full plan announced for I-70 Lid.

A guess:

1. Avon will announce construction of a major Midwest distribution center in Metro East (based on consolidation of two existing facilities into a Midwest facility in location TBA).

In light of the Centene move downtown, here were my predictions for 2007. Here are one's that have come to fruition so far. Not bad.

A new plan for the Bottle District will be announced.

Close enough. A new team has been announced which includes Clayco Development as a partner.

A new plan for the Kiel Opera House will be unveiled.

Although an official plan has not been "unveiled", Blues owner, Dave Checketts is planning a development around Scottrade Center as well as redevelopment of the Opera House.

Ballpark Village breaks ground same day as Cardinals first regular season home game.

Didn't happen.

The Roberts Brothers will start construction on its Mayfair addition.

Construction is underway.

A rendering for Joe Edwards' 10-story boutique hotel will be released.

A rendering for the hotel has been released.

A major corporation will announce relocation to downtown in a new tower to be developed.

Yep. Centene Corporation announced a move to downtown.

Cortex III will be announced.

The Center for Emerging Technologies announced a new $27-million wet lab to be designed by Cannon Design in July.

A new hotel will be announced for the CWE/Medical Center area.

The Roberts Brothers announced a plan for a Hotel Indigo.

Washington University Medical Center will announce a new major institute and building or a new building for an existing institute.

Two new towers for biomedical research have been announced.

And someone suggested I was "swinging for the fences".
