That explains the painting and drywall I saw last week. Interesting location.

I thought this was to be torn down? It was a necessity for BP Village?

Should have read the whole article...temporary in that space, but perhaps permanant for BP Village?

Is this just a temporary store for the All-Star Game?

it's only temp store for the All Star Game, that's my guess.

Let's just hope it isn't "temporary" like the former Amshack station. :?

Article says:
Fetcho said the store will operate through the All-Star Game and “hopefully beyond that,”

...

“I think Nike will be there as long as we have the building,” said Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III.
A nike store would definitely be an (albeit temporary?) attraction for suburbanites. :)

Nike will use about 2,500 to 3,000 square feet of space and is investing “six figures” into the store’s build-out, Fetcho said. The athletic shoe and apparel company is bringing in new fixtures and tables and giving the interior a fresh look. Nike plans to work on the exterior of the building this week.

I'd take 30 years of temporary in a heartbeat.

Definitely won't be permanent. A real Nike store couldn't survive at the intersection of the two busiest streets here in Melbourne - you're telling me it's going to survive in St. Louis after the All-Star game, in this "ECONOMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYYY...."

No chance. It's a nice temp store though.

And yet other Nike stores in other locations are surviving quite nicely. Were you trying to make a point?

^He's making the point that he has no idea of what's going on in StL because he's in Australia.

You mean like the Nike store in the STL Mills?

Checked it out at lunch - pretty disappointing. You can get just about all of the same stuff at the downtown Macy's, and there you can use coupons.

^ Yeah, I didn't have high expectations. I don't see it hanging around too long.

Isn't it just a nike cardinals shop? I thought I read that they don't even sell shoes.

That's correct - no shoes. The "store" is very small and not nearly as good as, say, the Cardinals Club House at Union Station. No jerseys or anything like that - almost entirely t-shirts.

And about as much effort was put into the appearance of the outside as the Cardinals did for Softball Village, which translates into not much.

Of course, this being a temporary store, I didn't expect much, but I guess I never paid attention before to just how shabby the old Bowling HOF building is starting to look these days. I think I'll just get my All-Star stuff at the downtown Macy's- they had a decent selection when I was there the other day.

Three One Four, I relayed your concerns about the appearance of the store and it seems they listened. For what it's worth:

Hey, Count, I'm glad someone listened to me- oops- I mean you. :)

That actually looks pretty cool. Admittedly, though, it's one of a few examples of putting lipstick on a pig, not unlike the huge ASG banner that now graces the Washington Avenue skybridge. But hey, every little bit helps.

Curiously, the Cardinals removed the fence wrap featuring Ballpark Village renderings from the fence around the softball fields. I guess they are trying to head off any media criticism for not building the thing? Whatever the reason, I'm sure the media will pile on for the sorry appearance of the softball field. I hate surface lots, but paving the entire site until something is built would've looked less ridiculous than it does in its present state.
