I like the design. It's fairly simple, yet still modern and ties in well with the other buildings on the site.
I like it. Of course I wish it was taller, but I like it.
Yeah, a nice touch. I think it is good for all of the residents, workers and hotel guests in the complex.Moorlander wrote:I was surprised by the retail.

I am too. If all the slots can be filled, it should look nice from the highway.
the I-64 web cam gives a great view of the construction on the Highlands building.

So the last 6 or 7 posts are discussing the new construction that has the sign outside that reads; "RETAIL COMING SPRING 2009?" I was coming in from the metro east last night and decided to get off at Kingshighway so I could drive by it and found the foundationcommercial.com site.
I tried emailing them about the development but their contact form doesn't work.
I'll definitely patronize the retail as long as it has something more useful than a Cricket Wireless store and a cash store. It would be nice if they built a drive up on one side so a Little Caesar's could move in.

I have a feeling it's a bit more upscale than a little ceasers...

The Little Caesar's in O'Fallon does just fine without a drive-up window, so I'm not sure that's even necessary.

Oh, my bad. I was just thinking typical strip-mallish type place
Sure, I'd go to Little Caesar's without a drive up. I will, however, never go to the Little Caesar's in K-Mart again. They are cash-only, don't do enough business to actually have Hot-N-Ready pizzas, their staff is extremely rude, and one particular moron undercooks the pizza every time. Oh, and the latest they are open ANY DAY OF THE WEEK is 6pm. I called to complain after my first time for all of the reasons above, so they gave me a free pizza, that was, again, under cooked. In other words, the LC in K-Mart in the STL Marketplace is everything that the LC in Fairview Heights wasn't. I lived down the street from there and got a carry out at least once a week.
Moorlander, what type of retail are you counting on?

Juice, my man, this should have been self explanantory from the beginning.
Also, realize with every low-end pizza you buy from Ceasar's you strengthen the Red Wings.
Say no to $5 hot n ready...

Now that is a strong point.

I'm not counting on anything in particular. I would prefer something that helps suit the needs of the Highlands community (both office workers and apt renters as well as the surrounding community.) I think a sandwich/coffee shop would do well there if they provide a quiet hip atmosphere. Something along the lines of Panera, Companion, etc.
FWIW I would never eat Little Ceasers... I just don't eat fast food, drive up, or low end pizza chains unless i'm real hung over.
Renaissance Financial moves, plans to expand staff
Renaissance Financial Corp., an independently owned and operated financial advisory service firm, recently moved from Olivette to St. Louis City and plans to expand its work force.
Advantage Capital Partners, a venture capital and small business finance firm, provided $7 million to finance the move and expansion through the Missouri New Markets Development program and the federal New Markets Tax Credit program.
Renaissance Financial, which has more than 100 workers in St. Louis, Kansas City and Omaha, expects to grow its St. Louis office to more than 200 employees by 2015 at a rate of 20 new workers per year, said Louis Dubuque, managing director at Advantage Capital.

Saint Louis is getting a relocation from Los Angeles as StationDigital moves into Highlands II building with 13,000 sq. ft.
http://www.stltoday.com/business/column ... ab921.html
"Moving our headquarters to St. Louis is an exciting chapter in the expansion and evolution of the company," Lou Rossi, StationDigital's chairman and chief executive, said in a statement. "St. Louis provides companies like ours with a vibrant community, a low cost of living, and access to top-tier talent that will allow us to hire locally and build out a great team."
I can't remember, did the Cortona Lofts take up the last buildable property at The Highlands? My long-term vision is to relocate Forest Park Community College and get more mixed-use in that prime location.

Does a community college not fit within the definition of mixed use?

Those buildings at FPCC, by and large, are severely outdated and decrepit. I can't imagine they will be in them for the long haul. I, too, would love to see them build elsewhere (Northside, Kosciusko...) and redevelop some of the most prime real estate in the City.
As a serious music buff, I love Station Digital. I also like their competitors Rhapsody, Black Planet Radio and Tune-In Radio.
Station Digital's artist stations are compatible with Pandora and Spotify, but the downside, for now, is that its platform is not terribly user-friendly. Quality reception, but too many ads on the dashboard/splash page. The dashboard/splash page is too cluttered and busy.
Hopefully that will improve greatly as they move to St. Louis.
Great win, St. Louis!!
