^ Believe it received new market tax credits - so it should be moving forward soon. Someone else likely has more details/better memory.
"SLDC's biggest award--$12 million--went to the renovation of the Missouri Theater building in Grand Center. The building, now empty, used to house the city's Health Department. The $40 million project by a Chicago-area developer calls for a Hyatt Place hotel, some retail areas and 40 apartments."

I would absolutely love to see the Fox's rooftop sign restored:jcity wrote:Can we bring back some of the long lost times square style signage? And what happened to the fox's rooftop sign?! A mix of modern and a few old, but mostly modern would be cool. How about the big shark in back to the future II !

But I'm not sure the owners (who are great stewards of the building FTR) would do that now since they've just sunk a lot of money into the very well done wall-mounted sign out front.

This really is an exciting project for Grand Center. Once it's complete and work begins on the Missouri Theater (Health Dept.) building, the Sun Theater and the Palladium will be the only remaining undeveloped buildings in the district. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they're both brought back to life soon and hope that Grand Center can continue to attract great new infill projects as well.
^From what I've heard, Grand Center Arts Academy is going to redevelop the Sun Theater. Right now, it only has middle schoolers but the plan is to make it into a middle school and high school. So the Sun Theater redevelopment is for he extra grade levels...
Good to hear, and good to see the Metropolitan rehabed. Grand Center along with Midtown Alley is really starting to come together.kmurph42 wrote:^From what I've heard, Grand Center Arts Academy is going to redevelop the Sun Theater. I think it would be wise to have a handful of these lofts furnished and set aside for visiting performers -- like a few of those doing extended sessions with the SLSO or Broadway shows. I don't know what system -- if any -- the theaters of Grand Center have to house their touring artists, but it makes sense that a portion of its foundation funds would go toward hospitality for visiting musicians, directors/conductors or composers.

The Symphony puts them up in various hotels downtown. Most headliners with the symphony expect the conveniences of a hotel, and really are only in town for 2-3 days at most, and maybe we only use them 1x or 2x a month. I have a feeling that the developers would rather have the rooms rented than only getting paid sporadically for a few nights a month...but if some where vacant... I know that once the Hyatt is opened next door, the symphony will be looking into using that...
FYI, toured this when I was looking for places and just heard they are now full. The Leather Trades loft is full and the Artlofts have a 3 year waiting list. Easy to see why Dominium wants more of these.
I thought PD had a great picture of the Metropolitan building on the website for their tax credit article

Another reason why Dominium is acting now instead of later. At some point, politically something is going to happen with the historic credits as well as others.

The signage looks good but I hope they can get some kind of neon at some point, like the rest of the area.
^ I can understand having it next to SLU/young university crowd as an argument, but have a tough time believing Apple picking this location.

yeah i think there's about zero chance of that happening. where/from whom did you hear this?

Maybe it will be a fruit stand. It could also sell grapes, bananas, etc.dredger wrote:^ I can understand having it next to SLU/young university crowd as an argument, but have a tough time believing Apple picking this location.

The Apple rumor is coming from this guy^ Usually a reliable source, but he's been a bit tipsy lately.roger wyoming II wrote:^ a reliable source says a new concept of mini-IKEA will be going in. Basically you shop with a sales associate who helps with selection and fills orders; there is bi-weekly shipping from the nearest full-fledged IKEA. Should be a big hit for SLU students.... that is if administration tells them its safe for them to venture out into the nabe. My source was drunk at the time, however, so I can't vouch for the accuracy of any of this.
Any retail in this space would be welcome. Any movement or confirmed announcements?

developer reports that the residential is 85% leased.
Can this be true if they're just now having the grand opening?
