I may be overstating things, but to me this project represents a seminal achievment for Grand Center. It was absolutley vital to clean up the entrance to Grand Center and with Woolworth's and now the Metropolitan on line we'll actually have a welcoming entry into GC.
We'll see if SLU ever does anything with the NE corner of Lindell & Grand.

Next up, the proposed hotel
Fearful that SLU missed its opportunity at Lindell & Grand in the near. Which might turn out for the better as Metropolitan is back on track amongst other things for Grand Center. In my opintion, unlike my differing opinion for downtown, its a lot better to get the empty shell filled in Grand Center first.
Unfortunately, can't see enough demand for more residential units or hotel rooms at Lindell & Grand in the immediate future if Grand Center gets all its projects in construction by the end of the year. A bigger fear, SLU runs with an underwhelming proposal for that corner vs a signature building at a significant corner. Gas stations and any one story strip retail would be a disservice to the corner of Grand & Lindell as well as Kingshighway & Lindell and probably few other prominent corners. If it means waiting so be it, its also worth the time to the property owner - going vertical in urban setting should have significant vaule to property owners with financial means to wait.
^ yeah, I agree that what GC has going on during this downturn is pretty impressive and that it would be better for SLU to hang onto the all-important corner property until times get better for a truly significant anchoring project for GC. Doing something permanent but stupid there would be unforgivable.
Oh sweet baby Jesus does that look great. I drove down to St. Louis (two hour drive for me right now) on Tuesday just to drive around and look at all the projects...and this project was by far my favorite to check up on. Now if we could just fix the corner of Grand and Lindell...

Units on the Northwest corner have a great view down Grand with the Fox, Humbolt, Missouri Theater Bldg., and University Plaza. Plus the Continental to the west.
^ a reliable source says a new concept of mini-IKEA will be going in. Basically you shop with a sales associate who helps with selection and fills orders; there is bi-weekly shipping from the nearest full-fledged IKEA. Should be a big hit for SLU students.... that is if administration tells them its safe for them to venture out into the nabe. My source was drunk at the time, however, so I can't vouch for the accuracy of any of this.

?? strange.
Looks like they want families to live here. That, or they're looking to build a hippie commune...
Here's where it's shown on the website, with a good update towards shared missions...
AFFORDABLE HOUSING The Metropolitan Artist Lofts is a partner community to the recently opened Leather Trades Artist Lofts. Like our sister property, Metropolitan participates in an affordable housing program. Household income limits are as follows:

In as divided a Metro Area that we have for political fiefdoms, I'm glad that there can be project collaborations between Downtown and Midtown. When I first read about the "artists' residence" aspect, I was scared of redundancy. But through collaboration between Metropolitan and Leather Trades, I see a whole lot of opportunity coming between these buildings, both for the buildings themselves and through the commingling of various artists, whether based in the same building or not. Great stuff.
Can we bring back some of the long lost times square style signage? And what happened to the fox's rooftop sign?! A mix of modern and a few old, but mostly modern would be cool. How about the big shark in back to the future II !
