^I'll have to agree that the new logo really made the new scheme more appealing. That said . . . it was hard to parse. Maybe they sent it off for a redesign. Hopefully someone can come up with something fresh that is also legible. And looks good with the new paint.

Also: I like the wraps. They add variety. And busses always have advertising. It's part of what makes them busses, right? In the 80s it was kind of billboard things. Now it's wraps. Whatever works.
Wraps are good sometimes as it offers up a little bit of variety, but they can be tacky (Injury Law ads like 411-PAIN and B&C Brown & Crouppen come to mind). I enjoy going around the world to many cities taking pictures and recordings of buses/trains/public transport. However, as a transit enthusiast, I try avoid riding buses that are fully wrapped as the visibility inside makes it hard sometimes to view out the windows. I also noticed some cities buses are only partially wrapped with only the middle windows wrapped. I am told by those transit agencies drivers and some riders complained about visibilty.

All said I still prefer a clean look without ads on the side of buses, but many agencies need additional revenue streams.

The Belleville News Democrat got a preview of one of SCCTD's new Gillig buses in the new Metro paint scheme. I like how the buses now have SCCTD in big letters on the side and rears. It used to be Illinois Metro buses had a little oval sticker that said SCCTD. Now I can go transit fanning in Illinois and see some differences.

The redesigned vehicles could be phased in between 2020-2022.

Will these be brand new trains or just the ones with the new colors?

I suspect they will be the same cars, but a significant rehab interior/exterior. Could be wrong though.

^ Based on what I read in Metro’s press release the new paint schemes will only be on vehicles that are new to the system that are replacing older cars and buses.
The new paint scheme will only be applied to new vehicles being added to the Metro fleet as they replace older trains, buses and vans that are being retired out of service. All of these updates are part of the normal maintenance and replacement cycle for transit vehicles, signs and materials, and no additional funds are being used or needed to make these changes.

I do like the new signage they will be using too.

What frequency will be needed for a route to qualify for the purple “frequent” status?

Per the Metro Reimagined website:
  • Frequent: 10 high-frequency routes offering service every 15 minutes or faster
  • Local: 35 routes offering 30-minute service
  • Community: 6 routes that provide important connections in low-ridership areas
  • Express: 6 routes providing direct connections with limited stops to key destinations

Thanks! That’s really helpful. And every 15 minutes (or less) is pretty good. Would be nice to see Metrolink achieve “frequent” status for more of the day.

WUSTl has beefed up their shuttle service
https://parking.wustl.edu/campus-shuttle-system/

I hope this relieves some pressure on the bus routes Metro cut.

Maybe it’s working

Ridership on Metro Transit (January 2019/2020) increased on MetroBus and MetroLink:

🚌1,725,253 vs. 1,789,825 (+3.6%)
🚋942,837 vs. 1,000,205 (+5.7%)

Although like all things, this coronavirus may reverse this positive trend

Just a random observation...but they must be replacing train cars at a pretty good clip.  I've been seeing quite a few of the new blue paint scheme around town lately.  Totally anecdotal but I think I see more of the blue ones now than the older white ones.

Everything that I’ve seen so far are just repaints.

^^ Well that's what I was assuming too...but when I came here to mention it I re-read my old comment with Metro's press release stating that the new paint scheme would only apply to new vehicles on the system.

Unless the virus scuttled plans to purchase some new train sets and they did decide to just repaint?

Edit:  Looks like there are some equipment upgrades coming though.  Wouldn't be surprised if some of these were them, looks like they were going to start implementing them this year.

Here is the relevant part of Metro's original press release:

Yea, this is interesting. Siemens doesn't make the railcars that we have currently anymore, at least from what I see. They have a new design. The paint jobs up to now are on existing railcars that they've cleaned a bit and put new paint on.

Whatever the case, I definitely dig the new look.  Maybe the bar was set low, but it's an improvement nonetheless.

^ I also really like it a lot...I would have preferred they kept the STL styled as an M on the sides of the train though (while keeping the original M logo on the front).  But I love the shade of blue.

Metro’s new electric buses coming into service next year look pretty slick.

Part of a contract Metro awarded to New Flyer for 14 zero emission buses and associated charging infrastructure.

I wish the colors on this bus were applied to the whole system. I like the blue and green.

That's a very nice looking bus. Hopefully the whole fleet is converted someday - and maybe throw some trolley buses in there, too.

I dig the look...bold, bright coloring.  Much better than the uninspired look they currently have on the roads.

Couple more looks at Metro’s new articulated buses. Two have now arrived in STL. 12 more are coming...all will run on the 70 Grand. Metro also has another four 40 foot electric buses on the way that will run on other lines.
