wait wait wait SONIC YOUTH is playing the Live on the Levee thing? First, I can't believe they asked them to play. Secondly, I can't believe they said yes.

Wow, haven't seen them for 15 years. At least.

More like 618. She's from Pocahontas, Illinois. (about 60-70 miles east) I'm guessing it'll take longer for her star to fade in St. Louis than elsewhere.

Somehow I think Sonic Youth asked Live on the Levee rather than the other way around. It just seems as if this band doesn't fit in with any of the choices that Live on the Levee has EVER made.

I know it's been at least 10 years for me. I was extremely pleased and surprised that Sonic Youth are playing. I've got friends coming in from around the country to see them for free.

Should be a good time. :)

I am having the cookout at my house in Dogtown then want to get everyone down there as close as possible without sitting in 2 hours of traffic afterwards...so I was thinking Metrolink.

First of all, we're going to have wagons, blankets, chairs, etc...is that giong to be a problem? I'm assuming not since I've seen people on there with bicycles.

Second, I was going to get on at Maplewood since I know there's a parking lot there...

1. Should I go to the Maplewood station, or is there a closer park and ride you think I should take like Brentwood or Richmond Heights? I'd rather not do Clayton since it's pay to park. Also keep in mind that i live a block off of Manchester near Manchester/McCausland so I'm pretty close to that stop.

2. From whichever station you suggest, how long of a ride should it be?

3. How late will the train run on the night of Fair St Louis? Still just midnight or until the riders clear? We'll be heading that way as soon as the fireworks are over, so just askin'.

Don't go west to Maplewood. I would drive over to the History Museum to park, and walk over to the FP/Deb station. This will save you at least 5 stops and is closer to dogtown. (Can you park in Forest Park after dark?)

Another option is to just park on the street (FREE) at one of the Clayton stops. There should be plenty of street parking within 2 blocks. I do this quite often.

If none of those suggestions work for you, you could always take Dale down to the Brentwood station (at Hanley) and park in the huge garage there. It's free to park there. I've done that many times. It does take longer to get downtown than from the Forest Park station, but it may be easier for a large group to find an easy place to park and meet.

Good question about parking in FP after dark...I would be a lot more concerned that there will probably be 5-6 car loads of us. That's my main concern. Then again, I don't know how much safer it would be parking at Maplewood. There will be 5-6 cars of Southern Illinoisans who are used to parking 20 feet from the door every where they go so I'm concerned about their whining.

How long would you suggest it takes to get from Brentwood to the Arch via Metro?

Wow! I never knew MetroLink had a website!

I think it takes about 20 minutes once you're on the train.

Can anyone provide me with a list of Sonic Youth's best songs?

I am sure I have heard a few. but I want to download a few to see if I like them enough to go to the show. I am a big alternative rock fan, but I never got into this band. Thanks in advance.

Go and experience the joy of discovery. Decide for yourself which are the best tunes.

I am pretty sure I was going to anyway, but I like to know a few songs before the show, in case the sound is poor or I can't hear them.

They've been around forever. I never listened to them much myself, so I'm drawing a blank on actual song titles. I can hum a few, but you can't hear me.

^Guess your humming wouldn't be very accurate anyway, if you've never heard their music before... ...guess I will take your original advice.

Teenage Riot, 100%, Sugar Kane, Kool Thing, Tom Violence, Expressway to Yr Skull, Rain on Tin... This should get you started. They will probably play a lot of stuff from their new album though.

Excellent taste^ Teenage Riot, 100% and Kool Thing would have been my top recommendations as well, I'll add Jams Run Free and Do You Believe in Rapture from "Rather Ripped", Drunken Butterfly off of "Dirty", Dirty Boots from "Goo", Little Trouble Girl from "Washing Machine" and finally Total Trash from "Daydream Nation".

I think I'm slowly renegging on the Metrolink idea. We have a big wagon we were going to pull my boy in with all of our crap (blankets, etc) plus everyone will have lawn chairs and blankets and crap. Getting there might not be too bad but I'm thinking taking Metro back and dragging a wagon big enough to take up 3 places that people could stand would be kind of rude.

Let's see a show of hands... Who's attending Sonic Youth tonight, Little Feet tomorrow?

I think I'm going to pass on Sonic Youth, From the very little I've heard of Little feet today at the office, they very much remind me of Widespread Panic... and I love me some Panic.

PM me if you're going tonight... I have 4 extra VIP passes I'm not using...
