Free fare bus within city limits of KCMO could potentially happen by May 1 next year. If it happens, apparently KCMO will become the largest US city proper to have city-wide free fare bus (not just within districts), at least for one budget cycle. The experience and success of the free downtown streetcar probably driving this.
City Council just passed...
City Council just passed...
Section 3. That the Council directs the City Manager to include a funding request in the next fiscal year budget to make fixed route public transportation fare free within the City.
Section 4. That the Council directs the City Manager to collaborate with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and engage relevant city boards and commissions and stakeholder groups in the development of recommendations for a transit priority policy. The City Manager is directed to provide a final report on such recommendations to the Council within 60 days of the passage of this Resolution.
If this happens next year, I give it a <5% chance of getting rolled back. Support for this is just to high - especially amongst the business community.hobo digitale wrote:Free fare bus within city limits of KCMO could potentially happen by May 1 next year. The Riverfront Park area appears to be booming. Hopefully, some retail space is included or else it will be just one large apartment complex with a hotel thrown in.
The Crossroads continues to boom.

Construction equipment is on-site, soil samples were taken today, and construction fencing has been up for a few months. Permits were filed this week that indicate Burns & Mac could be starting demolition work the first week of December for the new WR headquarters tower.

Not entirely sure what this was trying to accomplish considering this is literally the "Kansas City Projects and Updates" thread.matguy70 wrote:This is all fine and dandy - but doesn't KC have KCRAG boards to post this to?

Mac Properties' Troost and Armour Projects have new designs. All are designed by Helix. The supposed new start date is Septemeber 2020 with each of the other buildings starting 3 months after each other. The last building is to be completed in September 2022.
This project will replace 4 corners of vacant lots with 340 apartments, 13,000Sf of retail, and 187 parking spaces. This is supposed to be Mac's last project along Armour before going elsewhere.

I walked past the area today. It looks like the water shut off work has started. Wyandotte was being torn up and pipes were about but I forgot to take a photo.ldai_phs wrote:Major Update - Waddell & Reed HQ Tower could start construction next week:

Signage is on site now for the imminent road closures.

Geotech drills, dumpsters, and other equipment is on site.

Fire hydrant has a connection use with a demolition dust control water hose(at least that is what I’ve used it for).

Pretty stupid.
Overland Park already has mediocre projects that are not pulling in what the developer promised. Just look at Prairiefire.

^ While I question the wisdom of a development this large (and publicly subsidizing even more high end office and apartments) I'd rather see suburbs build projects like this than just more of the basic sprawl. Not that this is going to do much to reduce that sprawl since it's basically drive to urban-ism, but it's better than most all of the crap I see sprouting up along my commute to Olathe everyday.
Downtown OP has a lot more appeal to this target audience than Prarie Fire or this project ever will.KansasCitian wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2019Pretty stupid.

100%. Before my office moved to way south Olathe from Lenexa, downtown OP was a regular stop for lunches and drinks. Really great quaint little downtown, nice farmers market, etc. Prairie Fire, Lenexa City Center, and this aren't my scene, but I'd say it's better than tract houses.ldai_phs wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2019Downtown OP has a lot more appeal to this target audience than Prarie Fire or this project ever will.KansasCitian wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2019Pretty stupid.
