Anyone interested in the history of the Skinker/DeBaliviere neighborhood should check out the online archives of The Times of Skinker DeBaliviere. Some fun stuff, such as arguments about street barricades, gentrification, MetroLink, etc. They seem to have everything back to the 1970s.

Fascinating stuff in those issues.
The first one talks about demolishing two "obsolete" buildings on the SW corner of Delmar and Skinker for a Jack in the Box. The JITB didn't happen, but the demoes did and now we have the fenced-off barely-used AT&T parking lot.

Cool. Would love to see more of that in Skink-D.
Would love to see more of that in the city in general. :)
Good place to put the mother-in-law.
Just walked by to check this one out and it's actually a very misleading layout. There's no second floor and at best the space above the garage is for storage (think a few boxes, probably less than 100-150 cubic feet). The windows appear to be for aesthetic purposes only.

Rising rents in Skinker DeBaliviere:

https://nextstl.com/2017/08/rents-rose- ... baliviere/
^Yep. When you have rapid transit stations surrounding a beautifully built neighborhood with a healthy balance of rented and owner occupied homes sandwiched between a national research university, a world class city park and a thriving entertainment district, rapidly rising rents will ensue.

This certainly bodes well for Everly on the Loop getting leased up (although it's not technically in Skink-D and its rates are on a completely differently level). It can't hurt the prospects of the Olivette Baptist Church or Church's sites either.

Couldn't agree with you more. The fact that its taken this long for this to happen shows just how bad the situation in the City got over the years and how absolutely suburban we made ourselves. Take a neighborhood like Skinky-D with all the characteristics you mentioned and put in in Chicago or any other metro region that gets urbanism, and the rents would be absolutely outrageous.

sure would be nice to get some architecture that's a little more modern and a little less brown at some point.
I'm with the landlord on this.... 7 WashU students in the 7 rooms seems to be a good thing; who cares if they aren''t related?

Density, please!
Doesnt the landlord just need to update their housing license?
^ I read it as the city says she is violating the ordinance because more than three unrelated people live there in the 7 bedrooms..
