The newest of St. Louis Language Immersion Schools’ current elementary programs, The Chinese School, will move to 3740 Marine, St. Louis 63118 for the 2014-2015 school year.

The newly acquired building, a former school, is located in a mostly residential area of St. Louis City. At approximately 64,000 square feet, one-third of the total space will be used in the first year of the lease. St. Louis Language Immersion Schools has negotiated a five-year lease with options to renew.

With the Lafayette Preparatory Academy temporary move to 1881 Pine, the French school is consolidating with the Chinese and International school at 3740 Marine Avenue. The Forest Park Southeast location at 4011 Papin will still house the Spanish school.

I am disappointed they are leaving downtown. We need a good school down here and it was popular amongst the child rearing crowd.
^ if I'm following Mark correctly, both the French School and Lafayette Prep will be gone after next year, I believe leaving only the underperforming Confluence Academy remaining downtown. It'll be interesting to see if another charter seeks to cater to downtown-centric families. Also, there is one more office building needing to be filled.

I wonder about SLLIS having most everything in that Marine location.... seems less than ideal for a central location. I know SLLIS they were looking at that massive Woodard Printing Building @ Tower Grove and Vandeventer recently but I think that may have fallen through.

Yes. UIC was the architect. I has a NextStl piece ready to publish a year ago when their financing failed to come through. That project is now dead.

^ I didn't realize they got that far along.... I think it would have been a good, more centrally-located spot for them; I see they are still working on their master plan so hopefully they'll find a great fit in the end.

To be honest, though, I wasn't too keen on a school use for the building; I think something truly special could go in there -- not quite sure exactly what -- and my hope is that a denser, more economically productive use eventually goes in there. This spot and the Liggett complex are high potential, imo.
Looks like SLLIS is making the move to a downtown building (1899 Pine Street) after a 3 million dollar purchase.
