Their must be some relief in KC that the T-Mobile/Spring merger fell apart. I understood from reporting that KC might be the one to take the brunt of the corporate consolidation that STL has experienced in the name of corporate synergies/cost savings to pay for merger debt.. Instead, I believe Sprint is going to double down on its capital expenditures to be more competitive in the wireless market.
The merger fortunately appears to be off the table for good as it would indeed have killed KC jobs. There are rumblings now that Sprint's parent is considering pursuing Charter. If that happens, should have less impact on KC jobs than a TMobile merger, and potentially more jobs for KC, maybe. Cerner is the new job engine in KC though, adding a couple thousand every year. New 4M sqft Cerner campus is expected to add 16K more local jobs and now there are rumblings of expansion to a whopping 12M sqft long term, too bad the location sucks.

KC is growing rapidly with Pro Biz Services jobs partly due to Cerner, though lost a lot of Info jobs due to major Sprint cuts over the years. Nearly 200K Pro Biz jobs in KC, growing over 45K last 10 years....

About 218K Pro Biz in STL, growing 24K last 10 years...

Amazon/AWS is partnering with Cerner based in KC. Is not likely KC or STL will get HQ2 but this is interesting as Cerner wants a piece of medical records industry (and KC is getting a new airport)...
