POWERplex-St. Louis (Chesterfield)

Discuss new retail, dining, business and residential projects within St. Louis County, including Chesterfield, Riverport, Earth City, Westport and more.
Mike Matheny and Dan Buck are proposing a huge sports complex in Chesterfield Valley:

"Large enough to accommodate simultaneous baseball, football, volleyball, softball and basketball games, the dome will act as the centerpiece of a complex that includes 50,000-square feet of office space, a nonprofit center, medical services, restaurants, a 220-room hotel, a theater, zip lines and a climbing wall."

Looks like it went down in defeat and fingers quick to point out blame which ironically to me of all things is the fire district. Why not throw in the school district while they are at it. My take is the too many give aways and freebies was even too much for Chesterfield. But you have to give one PD Commentator credit for pitching the city.

Now if only a certain baseball manager could get his team to win again. Painful the last couple of weeks tol look at the box scores from afar. Certainly can feel for the Cards fans up close.

Looks like either The Mills site in Hazelwood or another site in St. Peters will be the home of the new sports complex funded partially by Matheny and Buck. I really like the reuse of the Mills idea, since that white elephant of a mall will likely sit otherwise. They can make hockey a big part of the sports-plex by keeping the current Blues practice facility up and running after they leave.

I'm not one to defend Chesterfield ever, but this quote from Buck is just SO off-putting. Especially when you consider the values these guys are supposedly all about.
"We owe Chesterfield’s City Council a huge thank you," Buck said in a statement Monday. "We not only have discovered better sites, but we’re working with communities and county officials eager and excited to create a true public-private partnership."
Your hope for a big hand out didn't go as planned. No need to be so petty.
Interesting use of space at the Mills. Image

I can't tell. Does this plan include keeping the ice rink?
I THINK that part bottom right is where the Ice Rink currently is, and it LOOKS to me like the blue label on top of that starts with the word "Ice."

So hopefully that is sticking around as part of the complex.

Best reuse of a dead mall site yet in the St. Louis metro - hope this goes through, or it could be years for a project to materialize there
I don't know. The Crestwood arts thing was pretty cool while it lasted. Second best. Maybe ;-)

But yes, it should be a good use.
