An eyewear shop is coming to the space east of Slat and Smoke. www.theseeneyewear.com

The former GoodWorks space is being divided into three. No sign of forthcoming tenants
Goodworks being divided into 3 will be big. The smaller the storefronts the better.
Three Dog Bakery is coming to one of the three bays created in the former Good Works space.

An eyewear ship is coming near Salt and Smoke.

I heard that 8$ Deli was gross
Ate there once. It was fine.
Neighbors on NextDoor are convinced that the closing of $8 Deli is a sure sign of the immediate and total collapse of the Delmar Loop; triggered, of course, by The Trolley.
If the Loop was failing would landlords be able to charge such high rents and still find tenants? Likely not.
The Loop isn't failing.

Exactly. Rents are high in The Loop because it's thriving. They're building a 14-story apartment building because The Loop is thriving. To be sure, not every business is going to be able to afford the rents, but that's a sign of change, not demise.

Some of the same people that oppose development at the western end which would house customers for said failing businesses?
^Yep.
Subway closed and will reopen at 6253 Delmar next year. That's in the WashU building with United Provisions and faces the path.
^Much better location for them.

BTW, anyone know how United Provisions is doing?
Just posted on Next Door by a U City Councilman:

"...there is a micro brewery slated to open in the Delmar Loop where Sole and Blues used to occupy a spot. That clothing business is going on the old Subway location. The micro brewery owns 15 operations around the country but I have not gotten a name yet..."

Another restaurant is leaving the Loop.

Nine months after Noodles & Co. shuttered its location on Delmar, its next-door neighbor, Chipotle Mexican Grill (6316 Delmar Boulevard) will be doing the same thing on February 28, a company spokesman confirmed to the RFT.
Opening in 2007, Chipotle and Noodles & Co. were among a wave of chain stores and restaurants to open on the street, which touched off a period of hang-wringing described in an April 2007 RFT story.

The story cited a number of chain openings, including Cold Stone Creamery, Jimmy John's and Crazy Bowls and Wraps. Today only Jimmy John's is left.
I guess everyone who wants the Delmar Loop to be "no chain" should be happy.
Where was there a Crazy Bowls and Wraps in the Loop?
Who needs Chipotle when Seoul Taco is right down the street? 8)
^ not to mention Mission Taco Joint. why the hell would anyone eat at Chipotle when there are better options? speed I guess.

Never in the loop that I remember. I think they opened on Forsyth in UCity instead.

I want to say it was in the spot now occupied by Fro Yo. It didn't last long.

The BJ article said this, "Chipotle currently is looking for better location to serve the same area, according to Arnold." so maybe they'll reopen down the street.

Once again, my neighbors on Nextdoor are going to be interpreting these closings as one of the signs of The Apocalypse.

Maybe closer to the Everly tower? Something like the old Pita Pit space.
(That's another chain in the Delmar Loop that bit the dust.)
^ can't recall, will there be ground floor retail for the Everly? (Also still curious about what's in store for the retail portion of the OPUS project on Lindell, but that's for another thread.)
