Why does there have to be an investment of this sort at all? Why can't all the buses just make a loop around downtown and drop people on sidewalks? A lot more job sites and train stations could be connected that way. Spend money on better bus stops, not concrete bunkers. Let us transfer at bus stops.
Anybody notice the street scenes shown in the recent NextSTL post on North City had no trees? Anybody find it weird that the houses directly north (on the other side of the street) of Bowood Farms do not have trees in front of them? You'd think having a nursery full of saplings that close might sugg...
You don't think the arrest of the guy heading up a $50 million dollar investment in Lambert is meaningful news?

When can we get a rooftop public pool like the one on top of the Marina Bay Sands?
I read the book, and was dismayed to find only one reference to St. Louis. While talking about the three airports in Chicago, Lindsey pointed out the dangers of inept state intervention using MidAmerica as the ultimate example of what not to do. There isn't a single reference to Lambert in the whole...
Will there be a stop midway in Carbondale or Cape?
capital improvements only, no money for planning? That leaves us with limited options. The planning and engineering for the trestle is still mostly conceptual. Nothing on the arch grounds is detailed yet. What about Metro's various TOD plans? Any Amtrak projects?
It is oriented towards its parking lot, and all the neighborhood is going to see are the shrubs and hedges walling it off. It's also dying. The marines came in, put some plants in the ground, and left. Looks like it'll be a big pile of naked mulch in a few weeks. Most of what they planted is or has ...
I looked too quickly and not close enough. The turtle park is clearly in the 24th ward, and so is Forest Park Hospital. The Hi-Pointe is clearly not. I don't really understand how entities like Forest Park that have no real population get broken up. Why would almost all of Forest Park end up in the ...
The map will be posted soon. In the meantime, may I ask what it might change, why it matters to people? A few people will change wards, some for "better", some for "worse", but in the end, nothing much changes. It matters because our wards are fiefdoms. Their borders create stro...
^ok, so there are two, I didn't count the American Land Conservancy, http://www.alcnet.org/ which is outside the Metro. There are also a couple Illinois groups.
^They have a strong list of partners too. m It's probably significant that MN has 9 organizations on the 1Mississippi Network, while Missouri has only one: Confluence/Trailnet. m Educated opinion since before President Jefferson made the claim that the Mississippi is actually a tributary of the Miss...
It's far more than historic preservation. It's precedent and context. UMSL and Wash U's programs are both very incomplete at the moment, but they needn't stay that way. Imagine yourself as a developer or planner approaching a site by first consulting its history online and toggling through two hundr...
One of my long-range ambitions is to find a way to make the Virtual City Project region wide. Currently, it is embedded in the history department at UMSL, but I'd very much like every history department at every local university to step in and for leadership of the possibly pass to the history museu...
Isn't Cordish required to pay the city for every year without the project in developement? I swear I read that somewhere. That was supposed to start in 2011, but was removed when the board of aldermen were trying to come up with incentives for Centene to move in. Somewhere there is a very angry pos...

^the section of Kingshighway would only be between Aresenal and about Columbia or maybe up to Vandeventer. South of Arsenal it'd still be scary.
Sorry guys, but I hate the new Vandeventer setup. This is a good concept for a street like South Grand, but this stretch of Vandeventer has zero pedestrian traffic. The only retail is in a small strip mall which has a parking lot in front. I used to travel this stretch regularly, but now I avoid it...
^I heard that Todd Waelterman never wanted the road diet in the first place. I heard a lot of vented frustration about that recently. How are we going to put Kingshighway on a diet if we're going backwards on Vandeventer?
Does nobody else think it's a problem that the old Southwest Bank is the only corner of that intersection with a comfortable sidewalk and a proper urban building? Other than that, we have a gas station, a car lot, and a library that is oriented to its parking lot. Now we're getting a garden that is ...
^sorry, the first image is from Montreal and the second two are from Seoul. Not quite the same as what we'd get, but probably similar.
