They've got their work cut out for them. Hope they work fast!

Of which year?
I peaked in the back patio today. If it is Fall of 2008, I would suggest they get moving.
Perhaps you should go back. Do you think your suggestion might be different now that you have come down? The Central Scrutinizer wrote:I peaked in the back patio today. If it is Fall of 2008, I would suggest they get moving.

I was wondering what you were doing back there. I believe most of the locals do that type of thing in Lucas Park...

I'm a little concerned we haven't seen any updates posted on Copia's web site. Shortly after the fire they posted a message saying they would re-open and would keep us informed with "regular updates." I've checked at www.copiawine.com several times and there haven't been any updates since that post.
Also, wasn't the owner of Copia going to put in a diner across the street in the Washington Avenue Apartments building in the vacant spot on the corner? I'm not seeing any action there, either.

Times are tough right now. They might be waiting for things to turn around.
Sign now says Re-Opening Instead of "Fall Opening"
Hardhats are working hard, front and back, with this building.
Also, there are hardhat workers in 12th Street Diner.

That's great - the last few times I walked by, it didn't seem like anything was going on.

I walked in the building a couple of days ago to have a look. They have a skeleton crew that is very slowly still doing demo work.
It nearly looks the same as it did the day after the fire.
No chance Copia could be open by Spring '09. IMO, of course.

I have a couple of unconfirmed bits on all this.
1. One of the major hurdles for Copia -- either a final settlement or an approved set of permits -- just happened last week.
2. The same owner is now behind Copia, the Diner and B&T.
Any confirmations appreciated.

I have heard the same as well. Stopped in for some pizza at B&T this afternoon and inquired. They said that ET is behind each. I can imagine that Bruce Development is funding much of this.bonwich wrote:I have a couple of unconfirmed bits on all this.

In a conversation with a guy tied to Bruce development he acknowledged that ET had bought B&T from the original owner for a pittance. The former owner was a big east coast finance guy and recently had a start up opportunity and decided to divest the parlor and head back east.
Saw evidence some actual new construction going on at Copia, looks like second story roof beams are going up. Hopefully this means things are moving forward.
We walked by today, work is definitely going along quickly inside the old baseline space which will be a market and private event space for Copia. We couldn't see inside the actual Copia space because the windows are blacked out, but it appeared that progress is being made.
Updates? The loss of this place really creates a void on that block. Any word on a tentative opening date?
Work was going on again today at Copia after a long time of no action, hope this means this place will be up and running soon.

...and ordered to pay back $2.7 million in damages? That's kind of stupid, that's a lot of license plates.
