Have faith. I had dinner this last week with a friend big at the Cheshire, and they're in great hands. He showed me pictures he took with his phone of the renovation, and they looked incredible, both the outside amenities and the new rooms. Very boutique, extremely stylish. They've just flown their new flags in the last week (US & UK) as they're finishing the outside seating areas. Inside the venues, the pictures he took with just his phone's camera look like they're from a magazine shoot. Beyond just the restaurants & hotel, plans include an on-site electric car charging station. And absolutely, they respect the history of the Cheshire.

The biggest problem they're going to have is crowd management, because when this place is done it'll draw a huge base!
I'll do what I can to help y'all. But, the game's out there, and it's play or get played. That simple. - Omar Little

The Business Journal announced today that The Cheshire's owner, Lodging Hospitality Management, is spending $12 million to construct 3 new restaurants. The main restaurant will be called The Cheshire and will seat 120 persons and the menu will feature several items from the old Cheshire menu. A 140 seat gastro pub and a 30 seat specialty breakfast shop and deli will also be opened. All three restaurants will be owned and operated by LHM (thus, Tony's is staying downtown for now), and the head chef of 360 downtown will oversee the operations at all three places. Financing is complete and construction is underway now, with a planned completion in July. No word on whether or not they are using the existing restaurant structure.

Was by there today and construction work is underway. Exciting - another fully renovated building where just months ago demolition was being threatened. A perfect example of the Preservation Review ordinance getting the desired outcome.

^ This project also highlights the benefits of historic tax credits. Without them this renovation probably wouldn't have happened.

I assume you mean without the credits the project would not happen.

I drive by this frequently and see that they have torn up the parking lot in front of the extra building out and into the road. I forgot what they are doing. Wasn't there mention of a coffee shop or cafe with outdoor seating?

^three restaurants, I think - also Clayton Ave/Rd would remain open. There was talk at one point of closing it so that more parking could be added.

It is good to see that the Clayton/Skinker/Oakland intersection is getting $2 million in pedestrian improvement treatments:

This intersection is scary for both auto and pedestrian traffic. No excuse not to have better/safer pedestrian access here. Thx for posting

City Streets Dir Todd Waelterman talked about plans for this intersection in this nextSTL interview from Dec 2011, saying only that lack of funds has put off a needed redesign: http://nextstl.com/transportation/city- ... at-streets

This redevelopment is very impressive. The Restaraunt looks very well done and I've heard good reviews while sitting at the downstairs bar @ Basso. Basso is a very comfortable and beautiful space. I could spend all day in there (If someone else is paying). The food is really very good and the beer selection is superb. But beware the pasta portions, while hand made and very delish, are stupidly small for the price.

The tasty sandwich portion (called the market) is closing and is being replaced by a Starbucks. I wonder if they'll put in a drive through

Yup.

But I've been bombing La Bamba Burritos with emails about going into that Del Taco spot. They're probably blocking me now.
