I work at Cementland. It's an incredible place but it will take a minimum of 2 years to finish it up. There is still so much to do before the really creative stages can begin.

I get to see Cementland every time I fly home to St. Louis. OK, so I can't see much detail from the air, but this place is huge and there's obviously continuous activity/changes going on.

From the looks of it, a little less than half the property is located in the City of St. Louis (most appears to be in Riverview, in the County).
I wonder how they will split the revenue from Cementland.

^ Apparently that's worked to Cassily's advantage to this point - it can be unclear who he needs a permit from (or so some may claim).
Drove past this yesterday, first time in 2 years that I have been by.
It is starting to look like something, still a way to go I am sure, but they have graded out the lower sections and a fimilar "turtle" is starting to take shape around one of the buildings.
This project is now almost 10 years old and still have not heard what the final product is going to be, but I can not wait to see it

With the updated Google maps, I took a look at Cementland. Here is the link:

thanks
Looks like there is a lake or pond and a canal so there is at least some water feature.

Nice timing on your question. Happened to be at City Museum today and talked about this project with the guy working the 10-story slide. Definitely take what he said with a grain of salt because who knows how much he actually knows...
He confirmed that the project will be a waterpark and said it would open in 2 years. Far more interesting: he said that they are waiting for the Mississippi to flood enough to bring in a 7-story cruise ship that will be parked somewhere on the site. Apparently waiting for those floodwaters is holding some things up.

Makes no sense. If the Mississippi floods, then a seven deck ship wouldn't fit under the bridges.
Hmmm, how many decks does the Admiral have?

^ True. I knew something seemed off about what he told me (hence my disclaimer). Regardless, I'm excited to see what the mad scientist has waiting for us...
Do you think he meant to say when its not flooded? Because the river has been flooded this whole summer.

Does this imply a large ocean-going ship would be coming up from the Gulf of Mexico or are there plenty of such ships on the Mississippi aleady?UrbanPioneer wrote:they are waiting ... to bring in a 7-story cruise ship that will be parked somewhere on the site.
Perhaps they need flood waters to get the ship off the river and into cementland...

If you're trying to float a large ship in you probably need it to flood across Riverview.stl pride wrote:Do you think he meant to say when its not flooded? Because the river has been flooded this whole summer.
Cementland is just north(east) of Maline Creek and not behind the floodwall.

yea but i really doubt that a cruise ship could get under the bridges on the mississippi with the river flooded.
I am also really eager to see this project. Hopefully it can be a tourist attraction and help turn around nearby areas.
I recently found a great source of photos of cementland on flickr:

Not that I have any idea what the finished product is supposed to look like, but it sure seems like we've got a long way to go.

Is it time to call this one a failure yet? I'm sure he's got David Jump financing it, so what's the hold up? Has he lost interest?
from what I have heard he is only working on it during the summer. Also for a few years in the 00's he was working on the roof at the city museum instead of this and only in the past few summers has he renewed work on this project. He is also limited by the amount of dirt being generated from construction sites and money as he is financing it on his own with money from building lofts at the city museum.

There is "work" being done out there but it's not the sort of work that's going to get the thing finished in the next few years. This is an eyewitness account.

so, everyone knows...bob died.
As a visitor and volunteer at cement land, work is still continuing. I often go, and from since ive BEEN going over the past 5-6 years, SOOOOO much has changed. There are new moats, and large ponds. New walkways to navigate and mounds and mounds of earth moved about. its an extremely long way from being complete, but it has come very far. There are too many unsafe structures to remove/section off/renovate. If I could say within the next 5 years, I would. Its going to take massive coordination to get things going up to speed, and not enough manpower or resources(money) to do it.
Its a very dangerous place if youre not careful, bob isnt the first person to lose their life there. Its turning into something awesome, just be careful and weary that you most likely will not be met in the most humble way. They really dont want people there, due to the fact that its a huge liability if you get hurt. I rarely go anymore, but because bob himself told me i could come whenever i want, i probably will again. I went to school with his daughter, he had known me a good long while. he understood that i wasnt there to mess anything up and i took full responsibility of my actions if i got hurt.
