First heard of the AB Biergarten a week and a half ago from friend in the beer biz (was sworn to secrecy), and he told me that this was going to be an excellent site.

We can expect AB to have a pretty wide variety of beers available here, not just American Lagers but multiple other types regularly on tap with perhaps some future R&D brews being test-run here. It'll also keep visitors at the Brewery after their brewery tours, furthering the draw of the Soulard neighborhood. And, it's a great nod of respect to the local microbrewery scene and the developing biergartens & taste rooms, that the big boys want to emulate them.

I'm really excited about this. I love and heavily support the local craft scene but there is still a place in my heart for a Bud or AmberBock. Especially a fresh one!

Do you think we'll ever see a hotel in Soulard? AB is a pretty big draw, you would think Soulard could support one.

Other than a small boutique hotel, doubtful a hotel would be within the historic Soulard boundaries.

Near Soulard, along Tucker, I remember seeing some old Bohemian Hill plans (Starbucks, Grocery chain, etc). It looked like a hotel could have fit well into the plans where the highway exit ramp was to be removed.

I don't see a 7th street hotel near Soulard, due to how easily accessible the hotels downtown are along broadway.

A great building for a boutique hotel in Soulard would be the vacant school house of the church across the street from McGurks on 12th St

There are lots of hotels in the French Quarter in NO. Maybe one could be built across broadway or between downtown and Soulard.

There was an article recently showing a picure of the iconic Budweiser "B" from the sign they just replaced. It will be placed as an art installation in the new beer garden. Cool!

Introducing a well planned hotel as infill into the Bohemian Hill mix would be great and certainly would see just as much or more business then what the Holiday Inn Express at I44/Jefferson sees on laymen terms. I think the existing Rock Gym as well as the proposed Food Hub or any coffee house/restaraunt would benefit from any additional foot traffic that a hotel would provide. You could easily Incorporate shared parking agreements to minimize surface parking lot/spaces that might be desired by a hotel chain if an independent can't be sought after. The location has great freeway access and the distance to downtown/Soulard Farmers Market/AB is minimal. Heck, Hotel could loan out bikes to add to the experience. Would just have to warn against drinking and pedalling afer visiting the new AB beer garden or making the ride into Soulard.

This location also fits some of the uniqueness of LHM properties as of late come to think about it. But they have been doing deals on existing properties in the St. Louis area. Wonder if they would consider a new build?

ABinbev is creating a new business unit in the United States devoted to premium beers. It will be based in Chicago. Too bad it is not in St. Louis!
places it "in closer touch with urban consumers, their way of thinking, lifestyle and the accounts they visit," said an internal announcement made on Wednesday and seen by Reuters.
On a sort of related, but not related note, 3G Capital, owners of Burger King, are buying Tim Hortons, to make them the 3rd largest fast food company in the world. As you know, 3G has a major stake in ABINBEV. The rich get richer!

Anyone got a handle on how many local lay-offs there's been with this latest round? Sounds like it was a fair amount although there's been no official announcement.

Big rumor is that AB Inbev desperately wants to buy SAB MIller. If so, to appease anti-trust, they spin off Budweiser ands it's a stand-alone company HQ'd in STL.....

That feels unlikely, but the want is strong, so tell me more!

I have heard that they want SAB Miller, though. I think that part is more than a rumor.

Where'd you hear the rest?

Would this spinoff be Anheuser-Busch or simply "Budweiser"?

Would it's only brand be Bud?

I'm reading into a single sentence, but I assume it'd be just the core Bud brands (Budweiser, Bud Light, Bud Select, etc.). But I still hope it might be called Anheuser-Busch. (I suppose if it were, it would also probably included Busch, Busch Light, etc.)

Why would they want SAB Miller. If they can't compete in the domestic beer market with Budweiser what is miller and coors going to buy them.

This seems so absurd. Splitting up Busch, and Budweiser makes no sense. Do they take core brand symbols with them, like the eagle symbol, and the Clydesdales. If the divest bud and Busch products what would they be taking from their historic takeover of AB. michealob?

I suspect these rumors are false, but if they prove true they will have plundered one of the most iconic American brands in history and in the process destroyed more brand value than any other example I can think of.

Maybe they see America as a stagnant market and the real goal is overseas?
