Hi, I am new to the forum. I like it. I live downtown and walk to work along Olive and saw the plans for the work being done in the 705 Olive and the plans said it is a Tuetenberg's. I remember that being a resturaunt in the old Marquette Annex building in the '70. All that is old is new again.

I'm told this is in fact the original Teutenberg family. No word on whether their renown fish sandwiches will be appearing on the new menu.

I'm not familiar with Teutenberg's - does anyone know anything about their original restaurant?

^ I knew it! I thought that name sounded familiar. That is the very same Teutenberg family as THE Fred Teutenberg of Dirt Cheap fame. I guess they are directing all that cash from cheap liquor and ciggies into a more respectable enterprise. I hope it is not a Dirt Cheap Food concept, although...

Cheap, Cheap! Fun, Fun! Remember, the more she drinks, the better you look!

You gotta love it.

Here's the blurb from the Business Journal:

Teutenberg's, a century-old name in St. Louis dining, will open a restaurant at 701 Olive St. by late July or early August. Chris Teutenberg is leading the investors, all family members including his father, Fred Teutenberg, who heads the Dirt Cheap Cigarettes, Beer & Liquor store chain. The new Teutenberg's will combine upscale dining, including roasted meat, fish and pasta entrees, with quicker service, offering both table service and a "bistro to go" line, Chris Teutenberg said. The family is spending about $30,000 converting the 2,600-square-foot space, last occupied by AT&T Wireless. From 1812 until the 1990s, the Teutenbergs operated bakeries and restaurants around town.

Is this the corner space of the Louis Sullivan designed building?

Yes, this is at the corner of Olive & 7th, which is within the Union Trust building at 705 Olive Street.

Unfortunately a sign in the window says they will be a Monday through Friday daytime only operation. We need more evening and weekend establishments in the central business district now! No wonder all visitors seem to see is a dead downtown.

It's kind of funny that many places rush to close up starting at about 1:30 p.m. and also aren't open on weekends. Compared to just 3-4 years ago, maybe less, downtown remains bustling into the evenings and on weekends. I did notice that Joseph's is open again for dinner.

Teutenberg's is open as of today. They open at 7 AM and serve breakfast. Best of all (for me) it's cheap and they have breakfast burritos! I grabbed a carryout menu and the food is moderately priced(~$6-$8). I didn't catch if they were open weekends.

I plan on going this week to eat, I hear the Fishwich is great.

Thanks for your business! Teutenberg's does not plan on opening on the weekends for now. However, you can visit Teutenberg's for breakfast and lunch Monday thru Friday. Try the Terresa's Club Sub and let them know Terresa sent you! :)

That's sad to hear.

Would you maybe consider opening for weekends the Cards and Rams have games? Much like how Lion's Choice, Bread Co and some others stay open late on nights where the Cardinals play.

I took a very late lunch yesterday but the chairs were already turned up onto the tables at 1:45 p.m. and the sweeping was complete.

I know labor costs will kill you if you don't have strong sales. But maybe some of these places that want to get outta Dodge by 3 p.m. can structure staffing and hospitality issues better?

Teuten's sign says they'll be open to maybe 2:30 p.m. I'm not the only busy person among the 90,000 plus who work downtown. When they head out of the office to get something to eat, they look for reliability and service with a smile (not a groan).

I ate at Starbuck's in the Renaissance yesterday. They sell sandwiches at that location that are really good. My sandwich and iced latte cost $11.00

Great. Another place in downtown St. Louis where if I take lunch at 1:00 or 1:15 I'll be getting the stink eye and the "get the eff out of here" vibe. I was going to try them for lunch today but I've got a meeting until 1pm. Oh well.

I had lunch at Teutenberg's Thurs. My impression is that the place looks great, the sandwiches, soups and salads are wonderful, and the staff is incredibly helpful. I hope they do well in that spot, they seem like such great folks.

Now that's service. I'll have to stop by now, even if I don't live/work downtown.

I went there today as well. It was fine, with some menu items that were unique. It was a little pricey but hard to compare one-to-one with other places. I'll have to try the soups. I had a salmon BLT and chips today.

Got out early for lunch today and tried the corned beef and cheese from the take out line. It was excellent!

I like that the sandwiches in the bistro line are pre-made but not pre-packaged. They were very appealing to see in the case. It's hard to find decent corned beef and many places use the lunch meat stuff.

Teutenburg's could easily become the closest best thing in St. Louis to the Cosi chain on the east coast. If you haven' experienced Cosi or The Bread Line in DC, it would be worth the trip for you. They use fresh-baked breads and are like a deli-style St. Louis Bread Company.

I was there too - it was very good and everything seemed very fresh/homemade. The people were quite friendly there too.

I don't live or work downtown either, but I'm sold!

I guess I'll stop by during the week next time I'm at that newly-remodeled department store across the street!
