On Menard, just north of Geyer, almost where the street dead-ends before Hwy. 55, it looks like the three-story home at 1882 Menard is being rehabbed. At least, I hope it's being rehabbed and not demolished. I don't recall seeing anything about this in the Preservation Board meetings. Does anyone know what's going on?

The front wall there is being completely relaid.



Usually, demolition crews don't put up scaffolding but go straight for pounding major blows into a wall, causing it to collapse.

The front wall is just about done - the building is looking good. I guess work on the mansard roof is next.

I'm glad it's a rehab and that it's going well. There's actually quite a bit of construction going on in Soulard right now. In addition to this project and numerous other rehabs/ facade restorations, there are a couple new infill homes being built.



Plus there is a fantastic little prefab project going in across the street from the northwest side of Potomac Park. It was a vacant one-story building that's being rehabbed with a prefab addition placed in back. They had two modules built in a factory then transported to the site and loaded onto the foundation by crane. The entire process of placing the prefab modules took one afternoon. I happened upon the crane while walking my dog but was unable to snap any pictures.



Soulard is definitely doing good even in these tough economic times.

On the other side of the street from this house, and a few doors south, an old alley house that has been boarded up for years is being renovated. New windows went in last week.



I love seeing these buildings situated right by the highway get rehabbed. It really helps create a positive impression for people driving through who may not be familiar with the area.

Please notice the historic cottage over a block on the corner of Emmett and 10th St. This is a real gem that will go on the market soon I think for around $340K. It was a complete rebuild.
