Went there for brunch - food seemed decent enough. Have tried a couple different sweet crepes and each time I go someone has ordered one of the omelette crepes and loved it. The music, personally I thought was a bit loud for a morning (10am) brunch, but other than that no complaints.

Oh and they have an extremely nice drink menu.

Trying it out for dinner soon.

Thoughts. . .?

Sounds like they are expanding along with a rooftop garden. Should be a good addition.

I agree the music is a bit much for the morning, brunch is great otherwise.
I have yet to go there in the evening.

lola isn't really my thing, but that expansion sounds excellent. it sounds like Tin Can with a rooftop bar.

Actually its the opposite. They have a drink menu that is base on traditional cocktails(ie highballs, manhattans, martinis, etc....good beer too!) that have their own finishing touches. Each drink is named after a building downtown which is a very cool concept. Instead of rock bands playing they have music that is pretty chill. One of my favorite places. If you haven't stopped by its worth at trip!

the expansion is going to have can beer and be "down tempo", i believe is how they phrased it... i know what's there right now is on a different wavelength, but this new part sounds more casual.

When the sponsor hip hop night we'll know they're about to go under. :)

Gay-friendly nightclub WeHo also closing (open only two months)... http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/m ... 6dcb6.html

That is an interesting article mentions how the Grove dominates the gay scene, but it also seems to suggest broader questions about how many entertainment districts in general the city can sustain.

The whisper campaign is interesting. One would think the more the merrier.

All they did was throw up two paper signs in a corner windows going "WE HO" and put one rainbow flag up front. They didn't even bother taking the old "Lotus" sign down.

The restaurant and bar industry has always been a tough business with many abrupt closings and openings but now with food prices at an all-time high - it has skyrocketed over the last 5 years- and an economy that is worse than anyone wants to admit, it is extremely difficult to stay open even with solid management.

That said, the restaurant and bar business will always be an irresistible draw for a lot of people which means people will never stop trying.

Tripel in Lafayette Square just closed this week too.

^ And of course Harvest and Brazikat in the burbs. Riverfront Times just announced the closure of a popular Sushi place in CWE. Anyway, here is background on lola's closure:

The extreme cold of this winter was brutal on restaurants.

While I won't deny the BPV effect, I wouldn't be surprised if a restaurant in St. Charles closed and they'd blame BPV for going out of business.

There is no way BPV had anything to do with this closing. Totally different market/clientele. BPV is an easy scapegoat. Lola was a cool place and it will be missed. However, I think location is great and it will be filled by a new restaurant/bar concept in short order.

^ I'm waiting for someone to say that the cable dramas were just too good to compete with. "Game of Thrones cut our Sunday business by at least 30% and have you seen the new Fargo?"

Maybe not BPV, there there are 2 new places that recently opened that compete with their clientele. Marquee and Coliseum are the real culprits. The owner of The City nightclub had the same sentiments when he closed a month ago. Too many clubs not enough customers.

That's what I was thinking. It's still only two months into the season and since BPV opened plus you're talking two different client bases.

I think we're going to see closings all summer long after places don't recover enough from last year's brutal winter.
